So... you want to be saved?
First, let me clarify one little thing. There is no "special prayer" you have to pray, to "get saved" because your salvation is only as guaranteed as your willingness to stop being disobedient to scripture. This can not be accomplished with just one prayer... because obedience is a lifestyle that is learned through time.
That being said, the general first step to faith is to recognize your need for God. You can't live this life on your own power, nor were you designed to. Too much, is too difficult - and we need someone out there who is willing and able to help us bear our burdens. If you are looking for answers, the first answer I would give you is God. Now, I'm not just talking any old god out there - because heaven knows there are plenty to choose from. There are a lot of religions to choose from too.
Here are the steps that most of the believers I know have taken to beginning a relationship with the God of the bible. By the way, let me introduce him to you: His name is Yahweh. The bible calls him LORD. He has become our salvation, so although the new testament name for him is JESUS, the Hebrew name for him is Yahshua - which means Yahweh is salvation. Not sure what the name Jesus really means, because there is no definition of the word. Just know that people make mistakes, and when trying to translate the bible into English, somehow the Hebrew version became the greek "Iesus" which was then translated into the English "jesus." The original name is easy to pronounce in English - it sounds like Joshua, except instead of a "j" sound at the beginning, it has a "Y" sound - which put together sounds like this: "Yah-shoe-ah." I call him by the Hebrew name, cause that is the name He told me to call him by when he first introduced himself to me. Some of you may be on different steps than others... but this is the basic guideline I personally followed for my own life:
1.We admit we are powerless over our life, and that it has become unmanageable.
2.We come to believe that a power greater than ourselves has the ability make our life better.
3.Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Yahweh, as the bible describes him.
4.Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves to determine where we have failed to love Yahweh with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength, and where we have failed to Love our neighbor as ourselves.
5.Admitted the the exact nature of our disobedience to ourselves, and to Yahweh. (this is often done through the sinner's prayer. I would recommend reading the book "The Bondage Breaker" by Neil T. Anderson. You can find this book here: The bondage breaker)
6.Were able to accept that the word of Yahweh wrapped himself in flesh and became Yahshua. Yahshua, then lived a life obedient to the Torah law as written in the old testament, and died on a cross. 3 days later, he defeated death and rose again to pay the penalty of our disobedience and make a way for us so that we can come before Yahweh and be fully forgiven for our disobedience.
7.Humbly asked Yahshua to forgive us our disobedience, and asked that he send the Ruach Ha Kodesh to write his law upon our hearts, and teach us how to live a life obedient to the bible.
8.Made a list of all persons we had wronged, and became willing to seek their forgiveness for any wrongs we may have committed against them, as is commanded by scripture.
9.Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. Become publicly fully immersed under water, as an outward sign of your full commitment to Yahweh that you will obey his laws for the remainder of your life. (if you have already been "baptized" in a church, I would recommend praying about this step to see what the Ruach Ha Kodesh would have you do)
11.Studied the 1st 5 books of the old testament, and 1st 4 books of the new testament, with the aid of the Ruach Ha Kodesh, in order to allow ourselves the opportunity to be further convicted of any wrongs we may have committed. If you need help with this, there are several pages on this website that can help, and I would recommend checking out our book store as well. A great bible study to start with is my book "Grafted into His Truth" which is available on both Kindle and in paperback for those of you who do not have access to a kindle, or the Free Kindle App.
11.Sought through prayer and scripture study to improve our conscious contact with Yahweh as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His torah for us and the power to carry that out.
12.Having learned the truth, we then seek to continue growing in our relationship spiritual relationship with Yahweh by following to the best of our abilities, through the power of the Ruach Ha Kodesh, His commandments to Love Him with all of our Heart, soul, mind and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
